Larger cracks sometimes you will have to pay out of pocket or file for the comprehensive deductible. Unless you have a special glass deductible on your policy which normally is affiliated with comprehensive insurance.
In some states if you have a chip that is less than a certain size such as a quarter, you take your vehicle to a glass place and they will contact your insurance and get it all taken care of for no more costs than what you pay your insurance for! It won’t even count as a claim.
In some states there could be a $50 to even a $250 deductible for a glass claim. Sometimes the exact same insurance carrier can have different deductibles depending on the state you are living in $0 to even $250 +.
Larger Cracks on Windshields
If the chip is a large chip or has become a larger crack.
Be careful for anything that can obstruct your vision. Sometimes you are ok to drive with glass cracks it just needs to pass inspection for your state.
It is important to see what your individual policy covers regarding glass. In most cases it will be the cost of the comprehensive deductible to get a full windshield replaced unless it is cheaper to go out of pocket.
Will Your Vehicle Pass Inspection?
Your windshield just needs to pass inspection. If it is very noticeable you may want to get it replaced. If you got one inspection and the shop didn’t pass you, it is ok to get more than one inspection. Sometimes a place might find something wrong where another place won’t find anything wrong and pass you for your inspection.
The cracks in your windshield cannot obstruct your view if it is to pass inspection. It cannot be cracked in a circle where a piece could come out. If a windshield looks like it is too damaged it could be a structural risk while driving.
